Post #4: The Drummer Boy of Shiloh

        Q: What are Joby's Conflicts and How does he Resolve them?

       We the readers learn many problems in life, so do the characters in our books.What really touched my heart was the story the Drummer Boy of Shiloh by Ray Bradbury. this story has a lesson: you can be anyone you wanna be if you put your mind to it. Joby ( main character can be known as the drummer boy of Shiloh if he actually believes in himself. In the end of the story he finally sets his mind to what he really wants to be, hes the drummer boy of Shiloh and he learn that at the end.
     "I was the drummer boy of Shiloh" pg 53

         Joby goes through a lot and he has conflicts that he has to resolve . One of his conflicts is that hes scared about everything.  First hes scared about the war and if hes gonna make it out alive or not. Hes also worried about his family. He lacks confidence in the beginning of the story and finally regains it toward the end. Joby is scared because he ran away to join the army in the beginning of the story. He has a lot on his mind. And yet he still doesn't know how to solve them.

           He resolves his conflicts by talking it out with the general. He was surprised when the general said that he was "crying to".So now Joby felt better, but the general told him he was the heart of the army.  Now Joby also believed in himself.If i were to put myself self in Joby's shoes then i would of did the same thing that Joby did. Joby is the kind of person that would like believe what everyone is saying he wont think for himself,  but i think i would of like not said that heart of the army thing toward the end of the story. The author did really good with all the dialogue and the detail. The author added a lot of terms to it made the piece look more interesting and cool.


           In conclusion, Joby had  many conflicts and he resolved them. He actually talked it out with the general. He let out his feelings and told the general what happened and then he finally felt confident about himself. And at the end he turned the drum so it face the sky and That's a symbol of him believing in himself. To me this story is amazing. Now that the general made his point i can push myself to do anything I set my mind to and how to resolve my conflicts.This story taught me a lot.
